This game is one of the tools to discuss, share awareness of the problems, and devise measures against them, before the outbreak of infections. Preparation before, and response after the outbreak of group infections require critical decision-making that involves many dilemmas. ひつじインフェクション ひつじインフェクションThere is no end to group infection of norovirus. Players act as sheep doctors and cooperate to work with sheep infected with “TORO TORO VIRUS.” If players cannot take appropriate measures, the number of infected sheep will grow. It is a simulation of spreading infection. We developed this game to be used in staff training workshops in nursing home for the elderly and childcare facilities. Children from early elementary school years can play, but children may need help from adults if they cannot read the cards aloud.

There are also diseases with preventive vaccines. This game is under development as a tool to learn and view infection in our life stage as a risk we face daily.

人生ゲーム感染症版 人生ゲーム感染症版Printed on each square are some infectious diseases we might acquire in our daily lives from when we are born until we graduate from elementary school. At several turning points of your life, i.e. graduation from preschool/kindergarten, you place your piece on a wobbly plate. If the plate turns over, a new virus epidemic will occur. The players can simulate a pandemic. For 1st graders and older. A list of infectious diseases contains information about the route of infection and the existence of a vaccine for every disease that show up in the squares. It will definitely become an information-providing tool for parental guardians.

Card contents are classified into 10 groups including food poisoning, view toward risks, food labeling, pesticides, and food allergy. These items are selected by food safety experts (registered dietitians and food sanitation inspectors) based on what they want consumers to know about. (See research report) The game comes with a pamphlet that explains details and how to play. For junior high school students and older. For 4~6 players. The game takes about 30 minutes to play. Braille version is also available.

食の安全豆知識 食の安全カルテット 小学生向けWe designed “Shoku no karutetto (Food quartet) for elementary school students” for use in home economics classes in elementary schools. Quartet game, leaflets to be handed out to each player and a teaching guideline are included. For card contents, we referred to study results of interviews of domestic science teachers, school nutritionists and nursing teachers.
